Digital Manufacturing - Week Two: Materialise Magics

One criteria of the Digital Manufacturing brief required the phones cases to be traceable throughout their life cycle. This is a complex task when scaled to mass production. To achieve traceability each design needs a unique identification code that communicates where the phone was produced, what material it is made from, it’s part number, and the name of the company that produced it. Manually tagging 50,000 parts is not convenient and wastes valuable time that could be spent more effectively elsewhere. Therefore, an automated tagging tool is needed that integrates seamlessly into the additive manufacturing workflow. To achieve this I used Materialise Magics, an additive manufacturing build preparation software that has the capability to automatically tag and duplicate STL files and nest parts within different additive manufacturing build environments.
